Description

Teachers, administrators, and other educational support specialists are encouraged to shift the narrative that AI is a "cheating tool" to AI being utilized as a tool that will empower creativity and personalized student engagement. The presentation will begin with the presentation of three simple essays - one is written by a student, another was created using ChatGPT, and the third originates from a professional source. Participants will be encouraged to analyze all three samples and then categorize the samples. This activity will lead into a discussion on three common myths surrounding AI use in education as well as outlining the need to define ethical vs. unethical AI use in a classroom. Slido interactive presentation prompts are utilized in this session so that participants can view other perspectives from the room feely yet anonymously. Participants will also learn about ways to enforce academic integrity in their classes by using tools free to teachers. Next, the session will encourage classroom strategies that encompass the "3 C's" framework (Critical Thinking, Creativity, and Collaboration). Strategies for classroom activities that model ethical AI use are also presented. Finally, the session re-emphasizes the need to adopt school wide policies and best practices which are enforced by real-world examples before ending with a question and answer wrap-up.
