During this session, we will look at actual student data (actual names hidden for privacy) from individual OST items and how to structure prompts to feed both the questions and the results into a chatbot in order to better understand WHY students might choose each wrong answer. Based on this understanding, we will then engage the chatbot in a conversation designed to create explanations for students as to why their answer might seem correct but weren't in a way that helps them to better-understand the logic of the correct answer. Next, we will use the chatbot to identify possible instructional approaches then tailor those instructional strategies to the individual interests of each student. We will briefly discuss the pros and cons of different chatbots and their various features. The session incorporates guided practice as well as time for teachers to try this out on their own. Additionally, participants will have access to a complete example chatbot transcript with presenter notes for their own future reference.
